FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING STARTING TODAY 7-22-2025

July 22, 2025

2025 FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE:

CITY OF NATCHEZ WATER SYSTEM

As part of regular maintenance, The City of Natchez Fire Department has begun conducting routine flushing of the water system by opening all fire hydrants throughout the City of Natchez and is anticipated to last through the month of August.

Flushing of hydrants is an essential practice that helps to ensure the integrity and quality of both the water and fire protection systems. During this time, residents may experience temporary discoloration of their water and may also notice a temporary drop in water pressure. The discoloration consists primarily of stirred up minerals and air produced from the high rate of water flow through the water mains and does not affect the safety of the water. Should you experience discoloration in your water, run your cold water tap only for a few minutes until the water runs clear. If the discoloration persists while running your hot water, it may be necessary to flush your hot water heater tank as well.

Flushing can be an inconvenience for some residents, but every effort will be made to keep the inconvenience to a minimum while this important maintenance work is completed. We kindly ask for your cooperation and patience during this procedure.
